Cica (INCI: Centella Asiatica)
Cica is a perennial herb that has been used for generations for its wound-healing properties. The main mechanism of wound-healing and regeneration occurs due to fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are a type of skin cell that work to increase the synthesis of collagen, as well as mucopolysaccharides, to promote the strength and quality of newly formed skin. Cica also helps to reduce inflammation and the appearance of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Cica has been shown to help boost this cellular activity, helping to soothe, calm, and regenerate the skin.

Niacinamide 2%
Niacinamide is an amide form of vitamin B3 that has been shown to increase the thickness of the stratum corneum (the outer layer of the skin), and facial-moisturisers that contain Niacinamide have been proven to improve the barrier function and hydration of the skin’s outer layer. This impressive ingredient also serves to deliver effective skin radiance properties, which promotes a radiant, healthy-looking glow. Niacinamide has also been shown to deliver benefits to the dermis, increasing dermal collagen production to promote an overall improvement to the integrity of the skin.

Biocellulose
The biocellulose used in the Carnosine and Cica sheet mask is produced via fermentation, using pure coconut water and a bacterial strain called acetobacter xylinum. The process takes approximately 7-12 days. At least 500ml of pure coconut water is required to make one mask. The method produces very small fibres in an expanded 3D mesh formation that differs from the more simplified mesh of bigger fibres observed for traditional plant fibres. Biocellulose thus has a very high serum-loading capacity and an increased ability to attract hydration. It delivers a softer, more gentle feel to the skin. It is exceptionally pliable and is better able to morph to the specific topography of the skin, increasing the contact area between the skin and the active serum. This ensures better absorption, and better performance.
